01 — Who you are dealing withThe agreement
These terms apply between you and Mooring Place Hospitality Ltd, NZBN 9429048163374, of 342 Wakefield Quay, Nelson 7011, New Zealand, trading as The Mooring Place. They cover the website, bookings, stays, dining, events and entry to the The Compass Room. New Zealand law governs them and the New Zealand courts have jurisdiction.
Nothing here limits your rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 or the Fair Trading Act 1986 where you are dealing with us as a consumer. If any clause here conflicts with those Acts, those Acts win.
02 — Booking
Making one, paying for it, changing it
| Confirmation | A booking exists once we have confirmed it in writing and taken the deposit or card guarantee. An enquiry form submission is not a booking. |
|---|---|
| Rates | Per room, per night, GST included, in New Zealand dollars. Breakfast is extra unless the rate or package says otherwise. |
| Deposit | One night on flexible rates. Package rates are paid in full at the time of booking. |
| Cancellation, flexible rates | Free until 2pm New Zealand time the day before arrival. After that, one night is charged. |
| Cancellation, packages | Free until seven days before arrival. Inside seven days the first night is retained. |
| No-show | The first night is charged and the remainder of the booking is released at 10am the following morning. |
| Groups of five rooms or more | Separate terms, agreed in writing, usually with a longer cancellation window in both directions. |
| Age to book | 18 to hold a room in your own name. Guests under 18 must be accompanied by an adult in the same or an adjoining room. |
03 — Staying
House rules, in the order they usually come up
- Check-in 2pm, checkout 11am. Bags are held either side at no charge. Late checkout until 2pm is NZ$40 when the day allows; it is free with the Mooring Suite and the Long Weekend package.
- The building is smoke-free, balconies and the terrace included. Vaping counts. A room that has been smoked in is charged a NZ$350 remediation fee, because it takes a day out of service.
- Quiet from 10pm to 7am. It is a converted store with timber floors and sound travels further than you would expect.
- Dogs in the two ground-floor rooms, NZ$40 a night, told to us at booking, not left alone in the room.
- Cots are free — we have six. A rollaway bed is NZ$45.
- Parking is NZ$18 a night in the basement, 44 spaces, 2.1 m height limit, first come. Vehicles are left at your risk.
- Damage and loss beyond ordinary wear is charged at cost. We will show you the invoice.
- Lost property is held 90 days and posted back at your cost if you ask.
- We may end a stay where a guest is abusive to staff or other guests, or where conduct is unlawful. It is rare and it is not done lightly.
04 — Dining and events
Tables, rooms, and the numbers that matter
Restaurant tables are held for 20 minutes past the booked time unless you tell us you are running late. Tables of eight or more are asked for a card guarantee; a no-show is charged NZ$25 a head, since the kitchen bought the food.
Event bookings for The Sail Loft, the Anchorage Room or Boardroom No. 4 are confirmed on a signed function sheet with a 25% deposit. Final numbers are due seven days out and are the numbers charged. Cancellation inside 30 days forfeits the deposit; inside seven days the full contracted amount is payable. Set menus are priced at booking and honoured for 12 months.
05 — The gaming lounge
Conditions of entry to The Compass Room
- Entry is restricted to persons aged 20 years or over, as New Zealand law requires. Photo identification is checked on every visit without exception.
- Acceptable identification: a New Zealand driver licence, a Kiwi Access card, or a passport.
- Management may refuse entry, or ask a person to leave, without giving reasons. Intoxicated guests are not permitted to play.
- The room operates 11am to 2am Sunday to Thursday, and 11am to 3am Friday and Saturday. Hours are not extended.
- Gaming spend cannot be charged to a room account. We do not offer credit, cash cheques, or advance funds in any form.
- Photography and filming on the gaming floor are not permitted.
- Complimentary gaming credit included in a package is per stay, is collected inside the lounge on presentation of ID by the named guest, is not exchangeable for cash, and expires at checkout.
- Self-exclusion is available on request, confidentially and in writing, for a minimum of six months, and is set out in full in our host responsibility policy.
- Game rules and table limits are displayed at each table and are available from the duty manager. The duty manager's ruling on the conduct of a game is final.
06 — This website
Content, and the limits of it
We keep the site accurate and update it when things change, but prices, hours and availability move. Nothing here is an offer capable of acceptance — a booking exists only once we confirm it in writing. Photographs are indicative of a category, not of a particular room.
Text, photographs and the marks The Mooring Place, Boulder Bank Kitchen, The Chart Room, The Compass Room, The Bosun's Table and Tasman Bathhouse belong to Mooring Place Hospitality Ltd. You may quote or link to this site; please do not republish it wholesale.
Links to other sites — the Gambling Helpline, the Privacy Commissioner, a map — are for your convenience. We do not control what is on them.
07 — Complaints
If something went wrong
Tell the duty manager while you are still here, if you can — almost everything is fixable on the day, and nothing is fixable a month later. Otherwise write to [email protected] or ring +64 3 546 8820. Written complaints are answered within five working days by someone able to do something about them.
We may amend these terms. The version that applies to your booking is the one published when the booking was confirmed, and we keep the previous versions on file.
